Anyone else now think he'll be off today then? Can't see the club turning down an improved bid.

If a £25M bid is true, I can't see how we could say no. The cynic in me says we told them to come back later with the offer, lessening the chance for us to re-invest. If he did go, not replacing him is madness. Though, Pardoo does have faith in Best and Shola

£30m bid rejected according to the Press Association. Whether that's just holding out for more or a real statement of intent remains to be seen.

Sorry guys 35m for carroll is a good deal, I know I'm going to get shot down in flames here but there you go

It is. If it isn't reinvested that's not really much consolation is it? That's the point. Even if it was going to be, are you going to be able to get a replacement(s) to come here who is anywhere near as good who'll play for 30k a week? Or is it just going to signal to the likes of Enrique and Tiote that they should move on?

Good deal? I'd bite their hands off if I thought we would re-invest well.

So where is the line drawn, 35m for carroll, 15m spent on a new striker? is that good? 20m, 25m? all of it, Suarez is IMO a much better player than carroll and cost what 23m?

I cant see it happening, but I can't work out why the club announced we'd had an offer. It makes no sense, unless they wanted to generate more interest.

Any player coming in would be a rushed purchase so would also be over priced. Unless we got him from the club he was sold too, or from someone in the buying chain.

I'd have thought turning down £30m would dampen speculation as no-one would be daft enough to go higher than that for a lad who hasn't played a competitive international.

The world's gone mad though as it only seems to have exacerbated speculation that clubs are lining up to pay even more.

Villa cost the same amount but it's moot since neither he nor Suarez would dream of coming here at present.

I'm holding onto the idea that it has been announced so they can turn it down. Straw grasping at its best.

Gut feeling says Carroll will go today. Hope I'm wrong but I just can't see Ashley turning it down.

35m is more than Barca paid for David Villa in the summer to put it into context. I'd still turn it down myself...

Didnt Wolves bid £3.5m for AC last January?

1000% increase in asset value in 12 months.

He was supposed to go to Stoke in July fo £5m if the papers were to be believed. I remember this time last year we played Palace at home, neet game, he was fuckin diabolical, I remember thinking I'd take £5m for him then. He's come on l;eaps and bounds since then though, but I believe we could stay up if we do sell, it's just £35m is so much money. Even Real Madrid are tightening their belts, their big signing this summer was only £20m. I'm torn.

As has been tweeted, we couldn't sell the whole club for £80m 18 months ago but we're about to sell a player for almost half of that.

Think that figure was bullshit like. £80m all in and I think there'd have been plenty buyers.

I'd keep him, he has that talismanic quality about him. Tbh I'd turn down 50m. Straight up.

I'm with you on that one. Will be interesting to see the club's take on it though given what was said.

Aguero signed a contract extension at Althetico Madrid. One less that Spurs are chasing...

Press conference put back an hour and a half according to Look North. May or may not be significant.

... and moved to St James instead of the Training ground.

It'll just be to unveil Ireland, then as the conference ends and reporters start to disperse Pardew will say as leaving the building 'oh boiy the whey, Carrolls orf, I'll speak to yous tomorrow'

We all agree he's not worth that much.

If he is sold, nobody expects it to be re-invested.

If it is, we wouldn't be able to get anyone with the same quality or as effective as Carroll with our current squad. And whoever we did get would be overpriced.

As well as that I can't see Ben Arfa, Collo, Jose, Tiote, Baron, Nolan, etc, etc being happy at all.

Agreed?

Remember Sima's famous quote that he was the worst player he'd ever seen? Bawan was the only person who stuck for him that's not even 2 years ago.

This is it like. £35m is mental money but it does us no good really as we wont get anyone to replace him and we'll never get anyone anywhere near his level to come to us, so like Parky says I'd reject no matter what because there's no point us sitting with even £60m in our pocket while having Shola+Best up front plus all our better players disgruntled.

Was that the game he came on near the end of the game and was just strolling about? He wasn't the best IIRC but he was about 18/19 coming into a game where we were getting beat (I think), don't know what he was expecting from him!

I was at a game with manc-mag the year we went down and I half-heartedly said I think he's a canny player and his silence spoke volumes. You could tell he was thinking 'wtf are you on about?' It's mad like. And I reckon Bawan only stuck up for him so much because he knows him as well.

If I was running the club I would categorically NEVER sell Carroll. As you say the money these days doesn't mean much if it ain't on the pitch. The kind of person Carroll is and the relationship with the club also means he is irreplaceable. Clubs like Spurs and Liv also sense that we will challenge them in the not too distant future if we keep the likes of Carroll and add player like Tiote and so on...
