I’m not a fan of Centerparcs anyway tbh but Whinfell Forest isn’t even in the lakes and the scenery is nowt special. It lies between the lakes and the Pennines. I could recommend loads of places I’ve stayed but the trouble with specific houses, lodges, whatever is they can quickly go downhill of the owner doesn’t spruce them up at least once a year. Because they’ll often have people staying there 40+ weeks a year so will get trashed. Ambleside is a really nice town. If you want somewhere where you can stroll to the village pub but it’ll be quiet of an evening then you have options like Troutbeck (the Troutbeck near Windermere) or Langdale (Chapel Stile / Elterwater). Langdale has stunning scenery, is still easy to get to (about 20 mins from Ambleside) and the two places I mention (which are adjoining villages / hamlets) have a couple of good pubs, coffee shops, village store etc. There’s some great places round Coniston and Ullswater too. I can also recommend Eskdale. There’s some specialist booking sites like Wheelwrights but everybody seems to be on Booking.com now from B&Bs all the way up to luxury mansions. I would think about roughly where you want to stay and look on there tbh and go off recent reviews, proximity to pubs etc. You will pay a premium if it has to be in the school hols though

Cheers Alex

I don’t have a clue really. It’ll be for 3-4 days. I’ve never been since a kid.  Probably something quietish. I’m happy to drive to towns.

I was dabbling with booking Whinefall Forest - center parcs but am leaning towards lodge/cottage with something to do close by.

I've stayed here in Patterdale at least 20 times over the last decade.

Good quality accommodation, lovely surrounds, private beach at the end of Ullswater. I've always stayed for 1 week periods though so not sure abourlt shorter stays. However,  the cost has doubled in the last 3 years, the guy who ran it who was lovely was made redundant, and now they've extended the site, all of which are negatives in my view. Can still recommend though. As Alex says though, you can't really go wrong as long as you make sure you're in the Lakes itself.

In the hotel were in there's an English family. Bairns must be 7 and 6. Both chatting to Spanish kids in Spanish then each other in a mixture of Spanish / English. Then theres a yank who's got German family who keeps speaking to her neice in German. Her neice is about 2 and her neice understands a bit of English when her aunt speaks it.

It's beautiful really is. Yet we have a small bunch of narrow minded cunts in our country.  Well get to fuck.

I’m away for the weekend with our lass, her two brothers & their partners and children (2.5 and 9 months) and her parents (is their wedding anniversary).

Havent had a minutes peace from talking about children since Thursday night, having to play with the older one just because he happens to be a child.

Finally thought I had some peace, escaped to a beer garden with my book and a pint. They have no all decided to leave the beach and come and meet me.

Fucking kill iz

Honestly thought people might be self aware enough to talk about something other than children, but how wrong I was.

I actually don’t mind these two but for 4 days it gets a bit much. They aren’t that interesting, and not everything they do needs to be a spectacle of wonder and amazement.

The elder one did a shit in his portapotty thing earlier and shouted “look” when he got off it, no ta mate.

Their dad.....

"Are you not entertained, Stawb? The fucking Dambusters couldn't have dropped their bombs with more precision than my eldest dropped his load in the portapotty there, man!"

Mate of mine had a similar complaint. She sent a message after and said she loved seeing us and she gets why we want to talk about them, but could we maybe not do it all night.

So now we consciously limit it whenever she's round and to be honest we're all better off for it. Learned more about the other dad's career after that, than I had in about 4yrs prior.

People get a pass if they’ve recently had their first kid. After that have some self awareness and occasionally talk about something else though, eh?

First time I went to a rave after my first born, I spent half an hour bending the ear of some random 21 year old in the smoking area about being a parent because it was all I’d done for the previous 9 months 🤪

Not sure what I’d prefer to tbh…children talk or a deep dive into some blokes job history.
