Meanwhile Theresa May's TEAM (c) is vetting questions from journalists before they get a chance to a ask them. What a wonderful democracy we live in.

It wasn't a direct quote iirc. It was leaked via his team that he wouldn't walk. It doesn't seem like anyone was pressing the issue, he felt the need to come out and say it.

Labour will scrap tuition fees apparently, one thing i've always been against happening.

capping them at a few grand a year or something fair enough , but letting people do degrees in whatever they can get into whether it's what they wanted or not for free... fuck that

What we really need, it made easier to get into uni so you can get a degree in something like archaeology and start applying to call centres

I've no issue with higher education being free, but it should be harder to get into Uni. Also, only actual Universities should get to call themselves that.

Sort the wheat from the chav :cuppa:

Well that's it, and making it free isn't solving that problem which is why you've a ton of kids leaving uni with degrees and masters and then applying to low end admin jobs and customer service centres, and struggling to even get those.

Currently, it's a case of doing a-levels and going to uni for whatever degree you can lay your hands on pending on the grades you achieve, "yeah i wanted to do  "medicine" but only got 2xD's and a U so i'm doing archaeology instead, why? cause it's all i could get into"

I've a mate who's an archaeologist who'd be seething if he saw this.

I mean, he wouldn't have a comeback because he's an archaeologist and his career is in ruins.

lol no I just know someone who was in that sort of scenario, which melts my head tbh

I actually have a cousin (not the guy i'm talking about above) who does it as well, but actually choose to and liked that sort of thing, but equally can't get work in that area, I was talking to a guy who was trying to get into I.T, whose degree was in Botany.

It's just the done thing to go to uni after a-levels for anything at all rather than it making sense now and it's fucking moronic, and there's much better things money can be spent on than the taxpayer shelling out for Vicky the MUA to do a sociology degree on our coin.

:D Just wondered what you had against archaelogists. Anyway regarding Time Team - what's the rush? That shit's been buried for centuries and it isn't going anywhere in a hurry.

Psychology is the ultimate waste of a degree

We just advertised for a research assistant, starting salary £21k. We had 50+ applicants, every one with an Msc in psychology and, no word of a lie, a good chunk were from outside the U.K. and we're willing to relocate for the job

You can literally make more than that on the tills in Aldi

Did a comp science/IT degree. Worked in IT for about 6 month before I hated it. Quit to work on a building site and do my H&S qualms.

I went to uni because I had nowt else to do and was quite bright, agree with Ant tbh. Kids need better career advice post school/college imo.

Its a bit of a chicken and egg thing - a lot of the shit degrees at shit "universities" exist because of the demand for everyone to have the chance to go.

I think Blair's idea of easier access was partly a noble principle and partly an easy answer to youth unemployment - a better solution would have been much better advice backed up by proper investment in training and apprenticeships - theres nowt wrong with bright 16 or 18 year olds becoming electricians etc - when the mines and shipyards existed they certainly weren't careers for thickos.

I think "useful" degrees should be free or at least cheap, I see traditional "indulgence" degrees like classics or theology as something people should pay for. Ideally a lot of the ridiculous one should be scrapped or continue to be charged for.

I think that the idea was that we need a more educated workforce in a modern society, which is true. But obviously a lot of these courses aren't actually of much use and whether it has 'educated' the workforce is highly debatable.

But the Tories have taken it to ridiculous levels with the fees and the likes of removing nursing bursaries when we have a shortage of nurses.

Will have a look in the morning but realistically it won't make any difference because we're now a one party state and Corbyn is unpopular. The fact that his policies are attractive and supportable whilst at the same time helping the majority of people, simply isn't important.

Will have a look though, thanks for the heads up.
