He said that a lot of younger people want 100% WFH now in our industry. Which I would struggle to teach someone software and the like without them being in the office. We dont have WFH, unless under circumstances. I wouldn't mind a day a week at home tbh, but I do prefer being in the office. The only real time I would like WFH is the winter when my commute can be meh. I cycle when I can all year or the bus. In winter obvious issues are ice, I dont mind rain as long as it's not pissing down. My brother works in the same industry and can do two days at home and he does because it helps with his childcare. But he says its abused by a lot, but he has a similar attitude as Alex. It's not his issue and he doesn't manage anyone. I haven't worked in an office since lockdown started, not sure I could go back tbh.

Absolutely none of my business but taking a pay cut to move to a different career ladder seems like a mental decision at your age? Is your job going to cease to exist or something? Is this out of necessity? You're never gonna make it as a dancer BTW. Forget it. No, its absolutely driven by choice. In fact, I am very likely to be promoted to a higher level here imminently, and there is a Newcastle office. But your work is half your life, there is no getting round that, so if you're unsatisfied or unhappy, its important to rectify that. I've tried over 3 years working in the commericial sector, and ateod, I can't really stomach the bullshit in the Pharma industry. There, I've said it. The ghost written manuscripts etc., lack of recognition, covering mistakes, constantly focussed on how much money we can make. It's just not me, believe it or not I want to work in public service despite less pay and worse conditions. It's not a different career ladder though (I know I said that), just a different "side" (think CPS vs. private barristers as an example). I have confidence I can achieve promotion to my present level within 2 years, and I will be adding on to my 20 years of NHS pension. Aim to retire in 10 years. 👍 Edited October 10, 2024 by Renton

Likewise. Having worked in financial services my entire career (I use the term career very loosely), while it may take up of half of my time, it certainly isn’t half my life. I have next to no emotional attachment to work aside from the visceral hatred of some of the arseholes I have to work with.

thebrokendoll 10002
back in the olden days of a misspent youth I was a bit of a dab hand in the art of liberty cap hunting, a favourite spot would be in the fields behind the moorcock pub on waskerley moors the other side of consett. down here a famous hunting ground is hay bluff in the black mountains a few mile above hay-on-wye. both of these spots you could pick literally hundreds of the fucking things in no time at all. anyway, I was a staunch supporter of the liberty cap and very dismissive of all other weird and wonderful varieties from mexico, thailand etc which became trendy in the early '00s and which you buy quite freely in certain shops up until they made the whole lot illegal in 2005. the fly agaric however had an aura about it, i was never confident enough (read, lacked the bottle) to have a go at this bad boy mushroom, even if you could find one. the only time ive ever seen anybody who ate one was sat on the pavement outside lakota nightclub in bristol being violently sick, sort of put me off even more! walking the dog yesterday across monmouth golf course at the bottom of a silver birch tree at the side of the 12th fairway, I saw this, never seen owt like it in me life in this concentration, enough ibotenic acid to floor an entire herd of elephant I reckon..... tempted?

Gemmill 48835
Just reading Bellamy's Wikipedia there. Died in a care home in Barnard Castle in Dec 2019. Just three months later and his family wouldn't have been able to be with him when he went. Covid times were a proper cunt.

Knew a lad who had a book on hallucinogenic mushrooms. Iirc you had to be very careful with the preparation of fly agaric. Never bother with that myself although nearly everyone I knocked about with did liberty cap ones. Which are obviously much safer, from a poisoning yourself pov. The period you’re in about, when you could get the Hawaiian ones etc in places like Kard Bar. They were imported from Holland (where they were legal). And someone had spotted a loophole in the law. Iirc, they were only illegal if ‘prepared’. I.e. dried and / or added to hot water to consume. So they sold fresh ones for a while. I saw a good documentary re: the industry in the Netherlands. A foreign tourist with mental health problems jumped off a building or something and died after taking some. The government banned them. So these farmers diversified into growing hallucinogenic truffles instead. They became known as the Truffle Brothers Not really sure why they were ok but the shrooms weren’t.
