Mike Ashley was the right man because he wasn't Freddy Shepherd, Barry Moat is the right man because he isn't Mike Ashley, make of that what you will.

Their song "over my head" may have well been the theme that our recent managers walk out of the tunnel to.

Agreed, without wishing to sound disrespectful to his achievements at Newcastle, it is more apt that that kind of tribute is done at Ipswich Town, in my opinion.

With Duff gone, there's only 7 players left who are ...

News of the World Toon owner wants big money players out By MARTIN HARDY, 16/08/2009 NEWCASTLE owner Mike Ashley is ready to launch a further cull of the club's playing staff. Ashley has already cut the Toon's annual salary bill from £74million to £48m since relegation. But the top brass want a further £20m reduction and that will mean more big-name departures. Damien Duff's expected £4m move to Fulham will mean EIGHT first-teamers have left since June 1. But Ashley wants more big earners out. Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini is being lined up for a move to Serie A with Palermo. West Ham and Wolves have targeted 20-year-old striker Andy Carroll, with the Magpies knocking back a £2.5m bid. Attacker Jonas Gutierrez could move to Greece, while defender Steven Taylor and keeper Tim Krul may be sacrificed to cut costs. Cheap Ashley has told acting boss Chris Hughton that he will have to rely on youngsters, loan signings and cheap deals to plug the gaps. Newcastle had only 16 fit players from their own books with pro-level experience to call on for yesterday's clash with Reading. The Toon have held talks with free agent Peter Lovenkrands about a possible return. The Danish striker scored three times after joining in January but was not offered a permanent deal when the season ended. But Newcastle have since lost forwards Mark Viduka, Michael Owen and Oba Martins and Lovenkrands is keen on a return after spending the summer training with old club Rangers. Talks with former Leeds boss David O'Leary about taking over the hotseat if Ashley fails to sell the club broke down on Thursday. It is expected that there will now be no managerial appointment until local businessman Barry Moat has been given time to prove his consortium has the funds for a takeover. -
Changing the subject, I hope Barton hasn't broken his foot again.

Sulaiman Al Fahim has revealed Portsmouth are in talks to sign Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez and Egyptian striker Amr Zaki. Dubai businessman Al Fahim has yet to finalise his protracted takeover of Pompey, but he has lined up additions to Paul Hart's squad. Pompey boss Hart is eager to improve his numbers before the close of the transfer window and could soon have Gutierrez and Zaki in his squad. Zaki spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic and has been offered the chance to return to the Premier League by Portsmouth, while Gutierrez could also secure a move to Fratton Park. Gutierrez has been tipped to leave Newcastle following the club's relegation to the Championship and he was linked with a switch to Olympiakos earlier in the week. Al Fahim has confirmed talks have been held with the Magpies over a deal for Gutierrez and he also hopes to tie up a swoop for Zaki. "We are in negotiations with Amr Zaki to bring him in on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer," Al Fahim told Emirates Business 24/7. "We are also speaking to Newcastle about the possibility of bringing Jonas Gutierrez to the club."
