Yeah, when you take a step back, what do these lads really do for a job? They're not journalists, they're just peddlers of transfer rumours, and the service they provide is mostly to clubs and agents who want to form certain narratives and pull strings in the background. They're generally quite reliable, but only because the quid pro quo that they provide to agents/clubs is so valuable that it nets them regular exclusives.

The only thing I'd say is that it takes a while to replace exec level staff, particularly ones who, if they're any good, are gearing up for a transfer window with their current employer and will therefore be hard to shift. I don't think we've moved that slowly on this, particularly when you consider that we can't afford another bad appointment.
