  1. I'm not knocking what he has achieved or saying their isn't a clique that needs to be sorted but I just don't think he's the fearsome player he was and I'm far from convinced he should in the team on merit anymore. It's important to have senior players in the team to help the younger ones come through but if they aren't performing you can't just keep playing them because of their past. Prior was the other example of this in the summer. You could argue Cook too but the captaincy issue makes him different. He has also showed signs of getting out of his slump.
  2. Yeah I pretty much agree but it's not that old an age for a player to continue til. It's not inpossible is what I was getting at even though I think it's pretty unlikely.
  3. How many decent innings has he actually put in over the past couple of years? I'm pretty sure I remember him getting one century in last summers Ashes but he did nothing in the winter. He did very little in the last IPL too. He clearly was a top player but the only reason other teams are still so desperate to get him out now is because of his past. He's no longer a player to be scared of.
  4. First season is excellent. I've got the second to watch when I'm in the mood for subtitles. It's another series that has an excellent song on the opening titles. I just finished watching Luther which was the same.
  5. Rooney averages about 14.5 goals per season so going by that it would take him this and then another 5 seasons to match Shearer's record. He'd be 34 by then so it's not impossible that he'll play that long and beyond. But he's predicted to move further back as the years go on (given they have RVP and Falcao as their top two strikers I think we're going to see him play behind them this season) so it's going to be less and less likely that hit more than 14 in a season (he's only done it 4 times so far). I don't see it happening. If he only needs 8 to match Charlton's England record I'd be amazed if he doesn't do that though.
  6. When we signed Shearer for a world record he had just scored 30+ goals three seasons in a row for Blackburn in 145 games (and 22 in 26 games the season before). When Real signed Ronaldo for a world record he had managed 23,42,26 in 10 more games (and 12 in 47 games before that). On that basis you would suggest that Shearer would go for at least as much. But despite the inflated prices that are being paid for English players these days I doubt that a player moving from Blackburn to Newcastle would go for the same type of money that a player going from Manure to Real would. Mind you, after seeing Spurs get that much for Bale it would be hard to justtify selling Shearer for any less than that.
  7. We clearly need a centreback regardless of whether Lascelles comes in or not. I'm not confident in any of the ones we have any more. And even if Cisse continues the way he's started this season we need someone else to cover him being away. If we're looking ok (which I don't see how we can be looking at Decembers fixtures) then we'll spend next to nothing but history does suggest the fat cunt will allow some reasonable expenditure if it looks necessary.
  8. It did lose a lot of momentum in the second season after they found out who killed Laura Palmer but they pulled it back at the end even if they left a lot of lose ends. I really enjoyed the film too but then again I love most of Lynch's films (excluding Inland Empire which made no sense at all).
  9. I fucking love twin peaks. Looks like Lynch and Frost will be involved which is essential if it's to be any good. Gonna have to get me box sets out now.
  10. Fucking half twelve for the tramps game again. Better get the next day put in as a holiday!
  11. By write off I mean a season with absolutely zero progression but just about staying up, hence at best. As things stands I'm not at all confident of achieving that. I fear Pardew will actually be sacked around mid March when we basically have no chance of avoiding relegation.
  12. You can't see anyway we can move far up the league the way things are going. We've passed up the oppertunity to take maximum points from what should have been some of our easiest games this season. And any hope that Cisse coming back to full fitness and form and then SDJ, Aarons and Santon all getting fit has to be tempered with the knowledge that our fixture list is going to get harder and harder. It appears that the only chance of Pardew getting sacked is for things to somehow get worse (Cisse getting injured on international duty this week would probably make that a certainty) and if that happens whoever comes in is going to have an even tougher job. If Pardew stays in the job I can't see how the witless fucker can move us out of the bottom three let alone far beyond that. Early days in the season it may be but it's already a write off at best for me.
  13. That's basically the same question as Parky's for me!
  14. Whilst he's clearly a prick and completely wrong about the reasons for us hating him, Ashley, Pardew and Kinnear, I think there is definitely a dislike for Southerners (and basically that's everyone south of Birmingham who has a remotely cockney accent). Yes we all took Lee, Sir Les, Barton, Roeder, McDonald, Peacock, Goddard etc to our hearts as we always will with anyone decent who puts in the effort and does well for the team. But in everyday life we generally think all the rest of them are cunts who like to look down their noses at anyone from north of Watford. Of course that's not always reality and when you meet people from anywhere you get good and bad but I think that with southerners that's our default starting point.
  15. Aye it makes no sense bringing a lad in on loan unless you think he's going to be able to make an immediate impact.
  16. She's annoyed me every time I've seen her on anything so I doubt I'll be tuning in.
  17. Because he's being played out of position and we have other (admittedly not great) options for that position. But Riviere's been poor and is probably going to be replaced by Cisse (certainly he will be when Cisse's considered fit enough). Both Dummett and Haidara have been poor and they've been replacing each other. There's been talk of Taylor coming in to replace Williamson. Cabella's been getting stick and so has Janmatt. So he's not being singled out. And his poor form goes back much further than a lot of the others and he's had less critisism than the likes of Williamson and Dummett.
  18. Very slightly. But my point was never he's a bad player, just that he's ineffective in the job he's supposed to be doing at the moment.
  19. But he's not being played there and he's not doing that. In the position he's being played he's doing fuck all.
  20. I still don't understand why you would think he would write off that loan. He could have done that long ago and it would have went some way to repairing his relationship with the fans. If he wants to piss us of he can continue to do that more by keeping us (and keeping us mediocre at best) and taking back that loan a bit at a time. That way he gets to enjoy fucking us over and has to lose nothing. I think a lot of us would accept relegation if it meant him fucking off so he hurts us less by doing what you suggest. Unless he sells us to Venkys of course!
  21. I think Dummett has zero potential. He's never going to be a premier league player. Haidara makes mistakes also but I think you can see something in him. Santon is clearly better than both of them but I still think he'll never be the player he could be playing on the left. If Aarons makes it and he has a proper left winger in front of him who can get down the wing and put crosses in then maybe but since he always wants to cut in on his right, having another player in front of him wanting to do the same thing isn't really going to work.
  22. No hatred but he's done nothing since the turn of the year. Up until that time he was chipping in with goals and threatening the oposition. That header for Cisse's second is the only thing he's done this season. I think someone said the other day that he's not had a signle shot. That's incredible if true for a player in the position he's played. He also never beats a defender and never gets any balls into the box. I know he's being played out of position and that is in no way helping him. It is a valid excuse for poor performances but it's not an excuse to keep him in the team. I don't think he's a top class player by any stretch but if used properly he's a decent member of the squad who works really hard. If he's not used properly he's of no more help to our attack than Obertan. I think it's in everyones best interest that he's taken out of the team now.
  23. That's an image that's just put me right off my lunch!
  24. Ok I'll give you that. Not that you would know it if you listen to the pundits but I agree he's definitely worked hard to improve that area of his game. I wouldn't go as far as saying he was a liability at first but I know what you mean.
