  1. The overhaul this season was completely necessary because of the malaise the club has been in for years. We needed to strip out the bad attitudes that were only interested in themselves and build and actual team. It's a completely different situation to dismantling a team that has just got promoted.
  2. I think it's an enormous risk for any team to have a massive overhaul after promotion. Clubs get promoted not just on the basis of ability but on the team that they build and the momentum they achieve. If you change the whole team then there's a good chance you'll destroy all of that (Watford after their promotion would be the one successful exception to this that I can think of). What we need is a two or three real top quality additions in key areas. That will cost a lot of money and it remains to be seen whether the fat man will provide that money.
  3. We were awful at the start but when Mitro came on the ball started to stick in the final third a bit more and that combined with the rest of the team waking up gave us a platform to attack. After we scored I thought it was the best football we'd played in ages and some of it was really enjoyable to watch. I even thought Colback had a decent game.
  4. SS-GB started last night on BBC. Got off to a pretty decent start.
  5. Aye the write up about it in the Guardian says that Stokes is getting £1.7m. I think he might have to pay something to people who helped him get that though but I suppose that the same as any athlete paying an agent. He's getting more than Kholi and Dhoni which is the biggest surprise. It will be interesting to see how they use him. I think with England he has to bat a fair way down the order because of the other batsmen. I think he could do a lot better if he was played further up.
  6. I was wondering about that myself. Apparently Durham will get some money from the ECB for him being there and missing some time with them. So you would think that the ECB must be getting something out of him being there.
  7. I've watched it the last couple of years. That noise they play every now and then gets on me tits but the cricket has been good.
  8. Looks like Roy and Jordan were picked up in the second round and Butler was retained by Dehli.
  9. Has he? He didn't go in the first round. Not seen anything mentioned about Butler. Not sure if he's in for it.
  10. Watched the seven five a while ago, really liked it. I finally finished watching the OJ documentary the other night. The prosecution made a right arse of his original trial but the judge in his robbery case really stuck it to him in what you can only imagine was an effort at some kind of retribution. It was amazing to see the reaction of the black (and a certainly white bloke who seems to think he's black) community to his original acquittal. It's hard to imagine a similar reaction to anyone over here.
  11. Stokes and Mills both beat Pietersen's record fee for an overseas player at this years IPL draft. Billings, Woakes and Morgan have all got deals but Hales, Bairstow and perhaps most surprisingly Roy all not picked up so far. Seems like bowlers and all rounders are most prized.
  12. John Wick Chapter 2. Stupid but reasonable fun. I'm not as down Reeves as an actor as some, in his best films he's fine. But his acting in this is pretty atrocious.
  13. I'm still lost as to why him being on the bench against Norwich could have meant he couldn't be injured now.
  14. Don't let Anita's performances at fullback fool you into thinking he's a midfielder! I've never seen Mbemba play there but apparently he looked good there for Congo.
  15. Hayden out for four weeks so we're going to have to suffer Colback for our toughest run of the season.
  16. No problem. I'll probably be off me tits by then so I won't be offended if you try and ignore me.
  17. How many goals have we scored from direct free kicks this season? Gayle against Reading and I think Shelvey has scored one but surely it's not enough to be considered a strength? They have been so bad recently this has got a defeat written all over it. Gayle, Hayden and Atsu in for Mitro, Gouffran and Colback would make me more confident.
  18. Lots of De La Soul in preparation for next Wednesday.
  19. Allied. Not a story about the carpet shop although that might have been better. Really obvious plot, iffy acting (although I did like Marion Cotillard) and some of the worst looking sets I've seen in a long time. Pitt and Zemekis can do so much better (although in the case of Forrest Gump, Zemeckis can do so much worse too).
  20. The difference in goal difference between us and the other teams this year is ridiculous. We were 8 better off than Forrest in third last time. We're more that 20 better off than anyone in the playoff positions this year.
  21. The last article he did on us certainly seems to have merit but it's equally clearly that in the past he's either made up shit or just repeated any old bollocks he's been told without making any attempt to confirm the truth. Either way, until we get promoted and Ashley splashes the cash we are going to hear stories like this. And I can't see any chance of Ashley confirming a 'war chest' before promotion is sealed, or Rafa confirming he'll stay until he sees the money. So I expect to hear more like this. Fwiw I don't see there being much mileage in this particular rumour as I don't really see Arsenal wanting him. I don't see Rafa being classed as one of the very top echelon of managers these days to the biggest clubs (rightly or wrongly). I think they would look to someone at a more successful club than us and probably look for a younger man. I also don't see them looking at the style of football Rafa plays and thinking that it's something their supporters will be happy with. I know with better players he could produce a more attractive style and I also think their fans will be more inclined to think that they should play a more practical style than what Wenger goes with, but I still think they won't be keen.
  22. From the footage I saw of their first goal, it looked like a clear foul to me. I certainly don't think Lascelles covered himself in any glory but Jerome seemed to come straight through the back of him. It seems like we were a bit unlucky not to win it. I'm sure they can say they battled hard and deserved the draw and there's probably some merit in that, but it seems that we had most of the play and a created quite a bit (which is a definite positive for me). I've got time for Mitro but you'd think if Gayle had played from the start he'd have scored. I'm sure he'll start on Monday providing he has no reaction before then. Sounds like Perez played well which is nice to hear. We've seen precious few good performances from him in the last 18 months.
  23. I'm surprised he waited so long. Could have been a lot nearer 100 if he'd done it sooner.
