Which begs the question why the fuck wasn't Panesar chosen. We're relying far too much on our tail end being good with the bat. KP and Freddie are meant to be two of the best batsman in the world but Fletcher isn't confident enough in them to put a specialist bowler like Panesar in for fear of losing 10-20 runs. I personally reckon if we had Monty in we'd only have been aiming for a score in the mid to high 400s rather than 600+. I think it's difficult to know how Monty would have performed in his first Ashes test. Plus it was our pace attack that won us the last Ashes, not the spinners. They've failed to perform and look at the result. I agree it's difficult to know how he'd perform but he's arguably our best bowler but because he's not capable with bat and in the field he's been overlooked, that's what annoys me.
