What none of these “declining population” scenarios seem to realise, is that by the time our kids are approaching old age, the climate will have solved many of the population problems, globally. Most of the tropics will become uninhabitable due to temperature and habitat change, the northern areas of the Mediterranean will become like the southern areas- arid desert ( yes, France, Spain and Italy, I mean you), the temperate northern regions will become hotter, wetter, and suffer from regular extreme weather events, as well as over crowding as the people from the southern regions flee north. Also, the loss of huge areas of fertile land will have an enormous impact on global food availability, so that’ll cut the population too. None of this is being addressed in these predictions or in reality. Thankfully, I’ll be long dead.
