Lad here who is a gooner went to the match yesterday.

He said they needed a police escort away from the Britannia as hoolies were trying to smash the coaches up!

I'm always surprised when you hear stuff like that. Liverpool fans banging on the then Man Utd player Alan Smith's ambulance, or fans battering their rivals' buses you can understand if not condone. But Stoke? Fucking Stoke? They're such an insignificance so what have they got to get riled up about? Why the fuck have they got a beef with Arsenal fans?

Still, if I lived in Stoke I'd be pretty pissed off. Maybe that's it.

I think Stoke have always had a problem with a hooligan element. I think you're right that the inferiority complex caused by living in such a shit area must be something to do with it.

QFT

You could probably put Carlisle and their 'lively' firm into the same category. If there is nowt to do in a particular area folks make mischief for themselves.

I'd take second.

I would. I don't even want to celebrate promotion, we're Newcastle United. Everyone was playing it down at the start of the season "I'd take 12th tbh" "21st would do me mate" to me I knew we'd be at the top, 2nd was the bare bones requirement for me, and when you look at our wage bill compared to anyone elses, it must be treble the next side(?), promotion isn't a great achievement. We don't deserve a trophy for this.

Id agree. Also dont you think 1st would allow the club an element of complacency.

Being serious i really hope they don't do anything at all if we get promoted. Getting out of this heap of shite division isn't something to have a big celebration about and will make us look stupid. If we've gone up just have the players go round the pitch last home game of the season to acknowledge the fans and leave it at that.

As for complacency i don't think first or second would make much difference, if he's going to be complacent it will be the same however we're proted i suspect.

Is it actually possible to be more complacent than he already is?

Agree about the celebrations as well although I don't think even Ashley has that much front.

While I agree it would be gauche for Ashley to lord it up, I think it's neccesary to recognise the commitment and will of the players should they get us up.

Think a lap of honour at the final home game would suffice in all honesty.

The likelyhood is even for the stay back 10 mins LOH, in all honesty I'm going to do a Wolves at the end of the season, unless we start playing good entertaining football, I'm bored at the minute and I still believe certain players are at 70% capability. I think the second goal against WBA, Bednar, for instance was the most disgusting goal I've seen a SJP (although I didn't at the time cos I was having a piss) for years.

We should put all talk of celebrations/laps of honour to one side, until the fat lass has put her microphone down.

I still fear draws will completely balls up this season. I seem to recall the players having a get together prior to this season in order to 'get things going' for the campaign. I reckon this needs to happen again for the final push, as the reports I read don't instill any confidence for the next few months. I was considering putting a bet on us not getting promoted when we were 12 points clear, but not being that way inclined I didn't. Maybe I worry unduly.

Roy Keane was right(for once) not celebrating promotion with the mackems

May 2, 2007: Rejects plan for civic reception and open-top bus parade to celebrate promotion, saying that only progress in the Premier League would represent real achievement.
