Memphis Depay already was the all-time top scorer in the history of the Netherlands. 54 goals in 106 appearances. He just became their all-time leader in assists as well. (35)

Proper captain material, that is if you wanted your captain to abandon ship before everyone else?

Bit early in the season to be making generalisations about the evolution of Premier League style.

It's been evolving for a little while though. And disregarding stats which I obviously love to do it's been visibly noticeable . Why do you think Slot said something like "Newcastle had the ball in air a lot" when we beat them at Wembley last season?... It's a thing. Michael O'Neil reinvented  fucking Bomber Command v the Bosch the other night. Personally am all for it :good:

It's cyclical though, isn't it? Rodgers was doing possession hungry shit in 2010, 6 years before Pep arrived.

Yeah that's true... that LFC broke the mould inspired by Greece winning Euro 2004 with a dull as fuck "433" which was basically 1 up front and 5 in midfield; that pretty much finally killed off 442 after years of the likes of Mourinho and Benitez chipping away at it... Pep and Spain changed all that (and as you say decent young coaches like Rodgers bringing it into the PL) and now Wenger's Arsenal of all clubs look like Stoke

Whenever a commentator of a game says 'It was never in any doubt" after someone scores a penalty I always think, if it wasn't in any doubt why didn't you say "... And Joe Blogs steps up to take the spot kick, there's no doubt whatsoever he's scoring this, mind..." BEFORE he's hit the ball?
