I’m sorry like, it’s a brilliant, insightful, thoughtful piece.

Better than most of our local hacks can offer up.

And better than every single XG post ever written.

I worry that you don't understand what this iteration of "AI" actually is.

The problem is we've looked shit for a lengthy period of time now.

May we were awful.

90th min pen against Brighton salvaged a point.

Lucky to beat 10 man Chelsea at home.

Loss to Arsenal followed by an utterly horrendous performance against Everton at home.

A really shit pre season. If Carlisle doesn’t count, not even sure we won a pre season game or looked close?

Haven't looked right since the season started.

Howe has been the best manager we've had since Robson & done something he couldn't achieve. What we are finding out is the squad is not good enough (best it's been for ages), or Howe is struggling to adapt formation/tactics to juggle this many games. Could well be both.

Players won't wait forever while we make 2 steps forward then 1 step back & it'll be interesting to see if PIF wait in the summer, if we finish mid table.

We've grown with Eddie and have to have faith that he can grow with us. He was shafted in the summer and doesn’t deserve getting fired this year, not by any stretch.

I think the worst thing that could happen is we finish in the Europa League/conference league. Rather miss out totally on Europe if not the champs league. Will give this squad the ability to grow next season with multiple additions. Who we lose in that period though might well kick us back further.

PSR has stung us tremendously too but sitting moaning about it will achieve nothing. PIF need to start getting creative and fighting back here.

It's still 2025, the year we won our first domestic trophy in 70 years, and the Howe Out list is growing.

The only thing I’d criticise Howe for would be him not having an effective alternative style , after the high-intensity press.
Seasons like this where we’ve been active in all competitions shows the need for a plan/squad B, and we’ve been shown to be lacking in that.

But I’m a long, long, way off doubting his position as our gaffer.

Honestly rather sell half the team than lose Howe.

He isn’t the lad having rushes of blood or missing headers or losing his man at corners or missing sitters or flattering to deceive but delivering little.

Completely agree. I'd be prepared to get relegated without binning him, frankly. Without Howe, the whole club would look unrecognisable.

Howe’s not above criticism. He was out of ideas today against a hardworking but limited Sunderland side. His tactics are rigid and he sometimes favours certain players who have done it for him historically, even when they’re underperforming.

I’m nowhere near doubting him. He has loads of credit in the bank. And there’s mitigation. He was stiffed by Isak in the summer, the league has been more competitive than ever the past couple of seasons and he has to cope with additional fixtures which leave him with no time on the training ground where he does his best work - tbf to him he’s trying to rotate the squad. In some games it’s worked, in others it hasn’t.

The majority of fans still back him. I’m not sure the owners will be as patient if we stumble to a midtable finish and miss out on Europe again.

Just ignoring this beatle wanker from now on.

There's no doubt serious introspection is needed. We've managed to scrap by some results but on the whole since the cup final we've largely been poor. We've become a struggling, laboring side that's lost identity and energy. Individual errors have become common and all the shithousery ,our spark, is gone.

Villa stuck with Emery after a champions league campaign where they finished 6th and missed out on CL qualification to..  us...

Emery hasn't won a trophy for Villa

There is certainly a case for changing manager if you're being ultra critical which 2/3 of football supporters have always been. The best candidate by a mile is Regis Le Bris :cuppa:
