Last summer Eales said the EXACT opposite, which was "all players have a price", and he got pelters for it, and the articles being written were critical. And I'm no fan of Eales btw, but you can't have it both ways. The reality of this summer is that the PSR-immune champions of England declared an interest in a player that knew he would never win one of the big trophies at Newcastle United, and would never get paid his market worth at Newcastle United, and that is really the beginning and end of the story. Everything else that happened subsequent to that were just the details of how he eventually left the club, but he was always leaving as soon as he said that he wanted to go. None of this means that we can't one day catch up with these clubs, or that there isn't the ambition to do so. It just means we aren't there now. Writing articles that are basically a tantrum because we aren't there now, is really unhelpful.
