Well the issues are councils not having the money to do a massive build, social housing providers the same since their budgets were cut, archaic planning laws stopping development of brownfield sites, land banking by the larger housing builders and a move into building PRS developments from some developers rather than build to sell. That’s before you get to a massive skills shortage in the construction industry, so even if the will and money to build loads of houses was there we couldn’t build at the required rate without a lot of foreign labour (hot topic) or a massive rise in construction wages to drive recruitment and training (which reduces profitability). Dont know the answers to the issues though mate or I would run for government.

I didn’t say it wasn’t. I said a massive council build wouldn’t solve the myriad issues with the housing market. I’m quite confident in my knowledge of an industry I’ve worked in for 15 odd years, but if it makes you feel better write to your council and ask them about their development plans. You could suggest a massive build

I’ve worked for 3 of the largest house builders in the country and now work for a group that provides social housing (as well as builds) across the NW. There are numerous reasons for the housing bubble but a “massive council build” wouldn’t solve them
