You would get more action, effort, and hard work from Diame than you ever get from Perez. Diame might not accomplish much but he would be a noticeable figure on the pitch, unlike Perez.

I don't understand why Rafa keeps starting Perez and giving him so much playing time. Surely he can see that Perez is very lightweight and is accomplishing very little this season. I'm not a fan of Diame but I think he would be more productive than Perez in that position. Unless Perez is in play with the ball he just trots around marking space and never shows urgent effort to close in on opponents with the ball.

I think this will be a showdown for Rafa's abilities as a man in charge facing his former team. I think he will have to start with players who can nullify Liverpool's attacking capabilities. I think we need to control the midfield to blunt their forward movement and the service to their strikers. I think they have a weak defense which we should capitalize on. Oh, if Rafa starts Perez against Liverpool, I'll lose some faith in him.

Well now, I said the game was winnable but I didn't mean by them. I would say that for about 60 minutes in total they out-played, out-fought, and out-scored us and deserved the win. My suggested line-up had Merino and Shelvey in it and when Shelvey came on it looked like it would work. I suggested Gamez too, and he made a difference when he came on. Last 15 minutes it looked like we might pull off a draw or even a win but it wasn't to be. Still can't believe why Perez is playing 90 minutes. Their goal was piss-poor, Elliot and 3 defenders were breathing down the scorer's neck.
