  1. Looking back, and I often do, I don't recall Stanley Mathews(the wizard of the dribble) getting too many injuries in his long career, and in those days defenders were not known to take prisoners. If you don't get the ball ...... get the man. Oh Happy Days.
  2. That's about the size of it. I've checked ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 FSC, & FoxsoccerTV shedules and none are listing NUFC. Haven't checked the Latino channels but somehow I don't think they will bbe showing any.
  3. Lighten-up WordPlay, get your spelling right. two E's not a Y, Yankee.
  4. Good question. I think it's most important that captains have good communication skills in English when playing in British leagues. To my knowledge the team captain is officially the only player who can approach the referee and verbalize with him. It would be hard to make a point if you weren't fluent in English.
  5. O' Christmas tree, O' Christmas tree, Just hoo often d'ye gan fer a pee. Sorry, couldn't resist that.
  6. Probably because we have a team in the womens world cup and not in the Copa America. Copa America: Watched the Chile 2 v 1 Mexico on a Mexican channnel. Chile looked very good, had most of the ball, excellent passing, but looked like they were trying to walk the ball in instead of shooting. Other than Mexico scoring against the run of play in the first half they looked like they hadn't shown up Didn't look anything like the team that beat the USA for the gold cup. Hernandez wasn't playing and I asked a Mexican neighbour about that and he said he was back in England, Man.Utd didn't allow him to play? I know Suarez played for Uruguay earlier in the day.
  7. Not sure about Germany's first goal, maybe it should have been called a free-kick just outside the 18 yard box. England keeper came out and played the ball with his hands and he looked to be outside the penalty area when he made contact with the ball.
  8. It appears to me that we are being kept in the dark (not surprising) as to whether there has actually been active interest in Enrique from any Club, and any bid been put in for him, or is it all just paper-talk (not surprising) I would think that any Club would want him aboard for pre-season training although I can see the benefit of waiting 'til January to get a better deal before Enrique walks away to any Club when his contract expires. It will be interesting to see if he shows up for training on Monday or asks for a holiday extension or time off for family matters.(not surprising if he does) It would be interesting to know just what healthy(wealthy) contract has been offered him by us. Obviously not a one he can hardly wait to sign. At anytime, has Enrique expressed a desire to leave Newcastle, or again is it all paper-talk? I can see players wanting to play in Europe, but I would think that Enrique's priority is to play for his country and he could do that just as easily by putting in outstanding performences for Newcastle as opposed to any other team home or abroard.
  9. He might take Pardoo for a ride when it comes to how much.
  10. Your sister must remember Wots yer mams name again bonny lad?? :-) dad? Ye nivvor knaa like, aa got aroond a bit, but aa hopes not.
  11. Round the world to see United -- but there are no tickets left. That was the heading of a big article in the Evening Chronicle on Friday, May 4th. 1994. It referred to me and a lad from Australia called Keith Davison who couldn't get tickets for the last home game of the season against Arsenal. It was nearly a full page article and had photos of us both. It was hoped that it may get us tickets but for me it didn't, I don't know about the other lad. I think it has been the only time I have come home and not had success at getting tickets to home games. Mind you, I think it was the only time I came 'home' at the end of the seaso, I always plan around the first match. Last year I was back for the Villa & Blackpool games and easily got tickets.
  12. Me missus was from Breedon on the Hill, not too far from Derby. Whenever 'home' used to make the token visits to see her family and if in the cards would go to the Baseball ground to see Derby Co. Took the wife and went to see Derby v Man. Utd. Derby fans were giving Bryan Robson some stick calling him a Geordie bastard. The wife asked if he was from Newcastle and I said no. Go figure
  13. Born in Huddersfield, me mam was in service there. Brought to Gateshead by me grandmother when I was one day old as me mam had contacted TB and I couldn't be with her. Never went back to Huddersfield, mam died in Whinney House, Gateshead when I was eight.
  14. Your sister must remember Wots yer mams name again bonny lad??
  15. Broke me duck?? fuck I haven't a clue, sooo long ago. Maybe CT can clue me in.
  16. Haven't a clue but I do know they won the FA Cup the YEAR I was born, 1932.
  17. I may have mentioned this before, but I once saw and had an opportunity to meet Bobby Robson, and I took it. I was back in England for 2 months in 2004 and had gone to St. James with a mate who was going there because they were conducting a free blood-pressure check in the restaurant that afternoon. It was a Wednesday and there was a home game that evening. As we were leaving and heading towards the main gate, a car pulled in and parked across from the shop. Bobby got out with some clothes on a hanger and started to cross over. I said to my mate that I was going to speak to him and my mate said you can't do that, but I did. I used my middle name as an opening by saying,"Excuse me Mr. Robson, my middle name is Robson but I don't think there is any family connection". He smiled and asked me where I was from. I guess my Geordie accent had been tempered somewhat by my years in California. I told him originally from Gateshead but now living in California. He put his hand out for me to shake, and said he had been to California and loved the sunshine. He then asked me if I was going to the match that evening and I said yes I am. He asked me if I had tickets and I said I had. He then said cheerio and went into the building. I've often wondered if I had said NO when he asked me if I had tickets, if he would have fixed that. Sadly it was the following Monday that he was sacked. There's a place in my heart for Bobby Robson, always will be.
  18. I think he is on a free transfer. The idea of extending his contract is bonkers. It would be bonkers for us to offer him an extended contract, but I meant a new club offering him an extended contract on a lesser wage to circumvent his high weekly salary which could be an obstacle to any lesser club signing him.
  19. It would be more than wise to let Smith go on a free if someone would match his pay scale or try to get him to accept less by offering an extended contract.
  20. Sorry manc-mag ......... senior moments ye knaa.
  21. I was never completely confident in Hughton's ability to be a Premier League manager but he certainly did a good job at getting us promoted from the Championship in one go. I thought he was sacked unfairly for no good reason considering who replaced him. I wish him the best of luck with the Brummies and hope he can pull it off again in one shot and then do well in the Premiership showing Ashley & Co. that they made a big fucking mistake.
  22. All quiet on the Swansea front. The talk of Naylor being close to signing for Newcastle seems to have ridden off into the sunset unless I'm missing something. Are we still in pursuit of him of him or has the pursuing posse being held up?
  23. Perch must feel gutted at not making the grade after Hughton reeled him in.
  24. Real questions are; Has there actually been any concrete approach of any substance from any club at anytime for Enrique? Is enrique playing a waiting game to see to see if there is going to be any approaches from any club that is going to be better than what has been supposedly offered by us. Is his delay in accepting a new contract with us positive proof he wants to leave? The fact we have already signed 3 new players is proof enough we are showing ambition.
  25. No place for Barton if he stays?
