Cantwell improves the squad as a whole surly?

Yeah of course, but that's not saying much when all he has to do is be better than Jeff Hendrick as sammy was saying. If we weren't fighting relegation I'd say it was a slight gamble that could pay off big time in the long run, as is we are fighting relegation and we need players who are as close to sure things as possible. Of course it could be the case that we are just buying Cantwell for the future and are also looking at other midfield targets who will hit the ground running.

I see we're being pretty strongly linked to Issa Diop, perhaps as an alternative to Carlos. At 10M, if that is the actual fee, that would be pretty decent business. Zouma had come in and replaced him until he got injured, but I don't recall Diop being mistake prone, always seemed very decent. Can you imagine the two absolute units of Botman and Diop at centre back for us, both 6'4, 6'5 ish.

The other way to look at buying Cantwell is we are making one of the clubs we need to finish above weaker, so now is a better time to buy him, even if we then send him out on loan to a Championship club.

Of course it does as they'll have to remove Hendrick from the 25 players, so it's a win win.

I know the premier league are suspect and all but surely they don't count Hendrick as a player?

Do you think the fact that we're looking only for overseas players at this point means that the board do believe they will be thwarted by domestic clubs in any potential transfers?

It's probably down to more than one thing. Maybe it has to do with PL clubs being less inclined to sell to us, but it could also be that other leagues are more desperate for money, and there's players with a lot of quality in said leagues if you have the money.

or as per, cheaper abroad.

I think clubs in the same league are probably always less inclined to sell to each other because of the added downside of any such transfer making your direct rival stronger. It's why when there have been transfer over the years between rivals they typically involve some fuckin ridiculously high fees. So, it goes without saying that a foreign club selling to us really doesn't effect them so long as they can replace what they've lost and have a suitable amount of coin left over to compensate any difference.

Also now we have some wealth, wouldn't it be prudent to do what Chelsea, previously and Man City, more recently, have done and hoover up as much of the young talent from other leagues?

I think that focus should probably hold off until we avoid relegation, replace the rubbish bins we have as stand-in icebaths and get something resembling a youth academy that is a touch above the status of rusty shed on a pig farm.

It was the famous, mysterious cabal of Tyneside businessmen that persuaded the Saudis to come. (All investment will obviously exclude Wearside and focus solely on Tyneside which is paramount to the Tyneside cabal). :good:

We’ve always been a bigger story than them, rarely more so than the last few years as they’ve sunk into and remained stuck in obscurity. The seething of late is because the news about us has been positive

I am sure that's a long term plan.
