Last season we were fielding Nile Ranger and Alan Smith and have went from mid-table to European spots. Liverpool have spent considerably more and haven't made any momentum in the league (though I wouldn't mind a cup like). I'd say on investment alone, I'd be expecting more and indeed, some smarter spending of big money.

Anyone watching Lilyhammer on the US one? Original series made for Netflix starring Steve Van Zandt (Sopranos, E Street Band) about a mob boss who flees to Norway as part of the Witness Protection programme. It's canny good with some mint characters; Norwegian Elvis impersonator, property developer whose partner is a reformed muslim. I'm halfway through and it's very watchable and (I think) has been picked up for a second season.
