It has happened too many times now. He appears to have had all the support in the world of late but if he's not interested in helping himself then he's destined to continue in the same form until he goes the way of Hughie Gallagher.

Rehab is never for months. You can get your body off the drink in a week. The rest is about willpower

thus spake the cunt who's never touched a drop

His continuing actions pretty well establish him as being a hopeless case. Hopeless or not I can't really turn my back on him although I'm about all out of sympathy for his destructive mode he lapses into far too often.

Withdrawal symptoms

Your withdrawal symptoms will be at their worst for the first 48 hours. They should gradually start to improve as your body begins to adjust to being without alcohol. This usually takes between three and seven days from the time of your last drink.

£300 an hour? You've been robbed mate

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition that can occur in people who have been drinking heavily for weeks, months, or years and then either stop or significantly reduce their alcohol consumption.
Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can begin as early as two hours after the last drink, persist for weeks, and range from mild anxiety and shakiness to severe complications, such as seizures and delirium tremens (also called DTs). The death rate from DTs -- which are characterized by confusion, rapid heartbeat, and fever -- is estimated to range from 1% to 5%.

You can convince yourself you're right if it makes you feel better. NHS funded residential detox facilities take people for one week. There's an evidence base behind that, it's not just an arbitrary time frame.

convince myself I'm right? why would I care if it was 1 week or 3+?

I just posted a link to prove it.

the nhs makes a lot of choices that are far from ideal, because they are publicly funded. my current doc is english, the yanks say weeks, the french say 3 weeks.
