  4. I’ve thought since Johnson came in these people are fully worse than Thatcher in virtually every aspect…. I fuckin hated her, as did my parents, but this cabal of fuckin swivel eyed avaricious cunts are democratically introducing Facism into the UK. Thatcher did some fuckin terrible things, but she wasn’t a fascist. This lot are dismantling checks and balances that have been in place for over 200 years, they’re without a single fuckin principle between them bar making themselves and their city mates richer. The same thing is happening in the US. This week has took us further down this “democratic coup” road than even they are post Trump. I wish I had your belief that they’ll be gone even in 18 months time but I think Brexit showed how easily persuaded average Joe is if you tug at his heart strings the right way….

  6. I used Aer Lingus on my first long haul flight to New York years ago in 1992. Could smoke in the rear compartment in those days. The plane landed in Shannon for immigration iirc. Anyway, it was a fucking ramshackle 747 that looked like it was going to fall to bits. On the return flight whilst taxiing for take off at Shannon the rear door exploded just behind me and there was an emergency evacuation. Had a T shirt on and ripped my arm with friction burns. Was told by air accident investigators afterwards that had that happened in midair (I.e. 10 minutes later) anyone in the vicinity not buckled up would have been sucked out. Nobody buckled up in those days. Been scared of flying ever since because of the oirish bastards. I reckon they owe me thousands for psychological trauma! Happy flight wykikitoon! [I'm assuming they've upgraded their planes]

  12. Something to cheer people up a bit - Darren Grimes has deleted every twitter post on his account (including the one calling King Charles a clown) and has apparently been sacked by GB News, whose HR team forgot to tell him. Thus, he found out himself through Twitter. I'm sure he's not gone, but he's been humiliated, and that's something.

  13. Talking of astronomy, Jupiter is the closest it's been to the Earth for 59 years. My mum says she distinctly remembers talking to my dad and uncle (his brother), who were both into astronomy, about the approach then, and my Dad speculating what the future would be like on the next close approach and whether he'd be alive. He missed it but my uncle, who is a decade younger, is still around. I'll remind him of this story. My mum says the 6 decades have gone like the blink of an eye. The vastness of space and time is truly humbling.

  17. I drive through Seaton SLuice 3 times a week nowadays, I'll make sure to give Reg a wave. Talking of which, I stopped off for chips at the Harbour View on Saturday. Not good, would have been okay in the 90s but time has moved on elsewhere. 4/10.

  19. This is it though isn't it, this is what proves that the people voting Tory almost to a man IMO, don't actually have the slightest fucking clue what they're voting for or what it means in reality.

  21. Good time to come off twitter again if you're on it. Half an hour on there and you'll be convinced we'll all be eating out of bins by Christmas. We're not designed to hear 300 people's different negative views of the future before breakfast, it's bad for you.

  29. Chez Given will come back and buy Seaton Delavel Hall and employ everyone in Seaton Sluice as his serfs and champagne fluffers. [I went to SD hall recently after the rennovation, they've actually done a great job, well worth the admission]

  30. I just got my first ever hybrid. It's only a "mild hybrid" - no need to plug in, charges a battery when the car is slowing down and employs that battery when you're accelerating - but I get 125% of the miles out of one tank of petrol than I was getting from the equivalent petrol model of the same car. Which given current prices is canny.

  33. We've educated that out of her, but she loses her sunny disposition when someone says "for free", doesn't pronounce "ing", says "I was sat", she even pronounces the h in where, when, etc. Speaking of phone voice she still answers the phone by saying the last four digits.

  35. Lets get something straight, Fish's mam speaks with received pronunciation. I'm not letting you wash away years of bullying by glossing over that fact. "Ee, our David"... She'd have a fit if I even suggested she spoke like that.

  37. Yeah, he absolutely wasn't let go because of his ethnicity. Perhaps his age? Not because no 65yr olds can do the job, I'm sure there are some of examples of engaged, forward thinking experts who're 65 but they'll be rare. Rather it's because he's out of touch with the game, modern punditry and modern media. He only got the coaching job because he was a good footballer, only got the pundit gig because he was a good footballer and only kept it because.... Well I don't fucking know. It wasn't some woke agenda that lead him to being the most interminably dull pundit out there, he was boring, and negative and curmudgeonly because that's who he is. Funnily enough, nobody wants to watch that shit.

  39. On the counter though these aren't tories as we'd have known them in previous years. Much like the GOP in the US, they have been eviscerated from within by a populist and his client media. I'm not sure they can come back from this, ever. I'm deperately hoping this can be a catalyst for constitutional change, I realise that probably won't happen.

  41. Unfortunately Nasser would be laughing out of the other side of his mouth now, hijab-wearing is still not mandatory in Egypt by law but it is common practice almost everywhere. The virulent ideology of Wahhabism has sunk its barbs deep into Egypt. As a society Egypt has been pushed far to the right since his day - and he was a dictator with absolute power, so hardly a bleeding heart.
