Mental to me that some randoms from shite leagues are more exciting to some people than proven premier league players. We have seen what Howe does with run of the mill premier league players (like Burn) he turns them into international players. Are all of our first 11 internationals now? Apart from Murphy who should be. We have the best manager in the league at developing players. He has targets that he thinks he can develop. We should give him the grace the buy the players he wants and develop them.6 points

Well, that I'm aware of. It's a few times now that I've had to turn the hose on Foden and Mainoo scuttling around the bottom of my drive.6 points

Schrodinger’s mackems. Where you’re simultaneously a ‘massive’ club with global recognition whilst being utterly obsessed with how you’re perceived in relation to your rivals (as per that thread) and are a stepping stone for promising youngsters6 points

They're not in the Bruno, Botman, Isak and Tonali category but if I'm honest the signings of Gordon, Tino and Hall didn't excite me either and they have all gone on to become full England internationals since arriving here and key parts of our team so I'd be far from concerned. I don't think think a keeper is ever likely set anyone's heart racing (and I say that as someone who played in goal myself) and we were never likely to be able to sign someone who could fulfil the role of backup to Isak (as well as being able to play other roles) with someone to create a wankfest. But Pedro as a player who can contribute in a number of positions would seem to be a good fit. Elanga is the one I'm least positive about if I'm honest. We've waited years to sign an exciting right winger after making do with players who were never great successes before the takeover, and he just doesn't quite match to what I was hoping for. Still he managed 17 goal contributions in the league last season and he already has an understanding with Isak from the national team so there's certainly reasons to be positive.5 points

they're not glamour/marquee signings but chelsea have made loads of those and it doesn't guarantee success. athleticism, pace, work rate and personality seem as important as technical ability to howe. he is also the best in the business at improving players. these lads are all young with potential to be improved. elanga is the one out of all of them who i wonder is worth the price mooted, but if eddie fancies him, you have to trust his judgement. i've seen enough from joao pedro to think he can be a really good player and he would also give us a different way of playing. the one question with him is his attitude, but again i defer to sir eddie on that.5 points

it's the time of year though, innit. fuck all else to talk about on here apart from transfer speculation, the cricket, the U21s, or WWIII4 points

Elanga gives us an added dimension with his pace, come ~ 70 mins when it seems we now like to drop off/consolidate our position (if winning) with him and Gordon we could cause havoc on the counter. With that pace threat on both wings teams will have to be circumspect in pressing us, which in itself helps defensively.4 points

Welcome back Gems man*. I was worried for you, man. You're my ying to your yang. The board isn't the same without you. Where would we be without your football stats and wrong predictions, man? Hope you are feeling better mante. 👍 * I haven't turned into Rayvin, just trying to communicate in the language of your new cannabinoid mindset, man.4 points

He didn't exactly seem that arsed to be honest. Was probably hoping for a longer run at the Man U job like the kid who was 'at the wheel' ®CamelFaceShitBrain4 points

If he joins Bruno and Joelinton will give him the good Brazilian, bad Brazilian welcome. Bruno will be all BFF and big Joe will do the big, cuddly, friendly giant welcome but with a 'don't fuck about or else' aside to it.4 points

Have any of the makems claiming STID (ironically sounding like VD) makes them “fashionable” actually seen it? Because it actually makes the whole club including fans look like complete basket cases. That’s also ignoring it totally makes the fans look like inbred appalachians.4 points

Just think, there’s ages until the season starts yet too. By the time they kick off, they’ll have convinced themselves that they’ll be the new Invincibles4 points

What's the likelihood that Martin Hardy has the inside track on our transfer negotiations and how we feel about progress? We've been very good at keeping things confidential so I'm very sceptical about the truth of stuff like this4 points

I've said it before and I'll say it again. PSR is the VAR of the transfer window. In principle its a good idea, and if it was executed well (and fairly) it would make things better, but as it is it doesn't and any chat around it is diabolically boring.3 points

I do wonder how their reptile brains cope with "County Durham" places south of the Tyne having NE ones - probably it's the shady businessmen/Magedia/Look North's fault.3 points

RCB is surely along with RW the two positions in the starting 11 that is in most need of upgrade. That's harsh on Schar who pound for pound is one of the best signings we've made since I've been supporting the club. But he turns 34 in December and is far from the quickest anyway.3 points
-
I think a RCB is paramount. We cannot rely on Schar playing every game next season.3 points
-
I think that's fair. But what does make it fizzy is we have Sir Edward Howe. If he can polish turds he can certainly roll them in glitter too.3 points

from that same thread... I'm no expert on these fuckers but other than bellingham, who they intermittently hated and thought was shite and appears to be a massive punt by dortmund that he turns out like his brother. surely birmingham city have a bigger claim on the development of either of the bellingham boys than these mackem cunts? isn't their only other big sales in these amazing few years ross stewart to southampton for £8m in '23, played 15 scored 1 and jack clarke to ipswich for about £12m, 0 goals in 20 league appearances, hated by the tractor boys and is being punted out after only a year? duly noted and in awe.3 points
